Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-05-09
Beta notice. Covenant is in beta. Features, mechanics, and content may change. Progress, items, and characters created during beta may be reset, migrated, or wiped at our discretion. We will give reasonable notice when feasible.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Covenant (the "Service"), operated by Yifan Ye Zhang ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. The Service is not directed to children under that age, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
2. Account
- You must provide accurate information when registering.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account.
- You may not share your account, automate access (bots, scrapers), or attempt to disrupt the Service.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law, with or without notice.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property, contains malware, or harasses other users.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without prior written authorization.
- Use automated systems to interact with gameplay (botting, scripting, exploiting bugs for advantage).
4. Content
You retain ownership of content you submit (e.g., character names, journal entries). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, and display it solely to operate the Service.
We may remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
5. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its art, story, and game design, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-transferable, revocable license to use the hosted Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.
The source code of Covenant is published under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 ("AGPL-3.0"). Use, modification, and redistribution of the source code are governed by that license, not these Terms. The AGPL-3.0 license does not cover the Covenant name, logo, game art, story, written content, or trademarks, which remain reserved.
6. Virtual Items
Gold, equipment, dice, and any other in-game items have no monetary value, are not transferable outside the Service, and are not redeemable for real currency. They may be modified, balanced, or removed at any time as part of normal game operations.
7. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from the settings page. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you violate these Terms or if continued service is no longer feasible. Sections that by their nature should survive (e.g., Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Governing Law) survive termination.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or (b) USD 50.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the Service or by email. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
